Cimex Engineers Future For The IET
Cimex has developed Urban Evolution, the latest exciting Faraday website from the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) aimed at teachers and students all over the UK.
Packed full of interesting facts, fascinating videos and fun games, the site offers an amazing educational resource that builds on the previous IET Faraday website designed by Cimex. Urban Evolution looks at the way in which our urban landscape is changing and how engineering is helping us to meet the challenges of the future where water and energy will be important considerations.
Cimex worked closely with the team at The IET and Radley Yeldar, who researched, developed and produced the video content for the site, to bring a number of innovative projects from around the world together to show young people how engineering is critical to solving some of the biggest problems we face in our world today.
Divided into residential, services and entertainment districts, users can navigate through The IET urban landscape by using a nifty 3D map that takes them from:
• a green school which generates its own power to the first home boiler to produce electricity,
• from a nightclub whose lights are powered by the dancers themselves to an arena in Dublin which uses engineering to help reduce external noise but maintain the concert experience,
• from a colossal sewage system running under the Thames across central London to California where they are taking sewage and processing it into pure drinking water using Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) as a way forward in the fight to conserve water.
Cimex has developed 3 interactive games for the site so that once students have watched the video interviews and digested the fact files they can use their new found knowledge to unlock the secrets of water purification,sound design and energy storage and consumption.

The IET Faraday website, Urban Evolution will be supported by a number of Challenge Days which will be held in schools nationwide from November, with the Challenge Day final taking place at the national Big Bang Fair in March.
